Winthrop University officials have confirmed that 21-year-old senior Anna Marie Hurst has died.
York County Coroner Sabrina Gast says Hurst died at her parents’ home in Rock Hill and the death is not being investigated as a crime.
Hurst was a Family and Consumer Sciences major and was scheduled to graduate Saturday.
“Last night, Anna was home with her family helping to trim their Christmas tree,” said Winthrop University Vice President for Student Life Frank Ardiolo. “She went to bed very happy and died during the night from an unknown cause.”
“Anna had a special way with children and was to receive her degree tomorrow in family and consumer science. She was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and worked in a Rock Hill child development center – even taking care of some of our staff’s children there,” Ardiolo said.
University spokeswoman Judy Longshaw says the Winthrop now has plans to honor Hurst’s memory during Saturday’s commencement ceremonies.
