Just in time for Christmas, students at Winthrop University collected and donated over 250 pounds of pet food to the York County Council on Aging Thursday.

The food will be distributed to seniors across York County who face challenges feeding their pets.

That was Lt. Governor Glenn McConnell, the head of the state’s Office on Aging. McConnell, who assumed office earlier this year following the resignation of Lt. Gov. Ken Ard, tells WRHI that with help from groups like Winthrop and the York County Council on Aging, everyone benefits.

York County Council on Aging spokeswoman Lyn Garris praised McConnell for traveling across the state after assuming office to get a real look a the issues facing today’s seniors.
