York County Council Monday officially voted a third and final time to redirect 3.1 million dollars in bond money from building rural fire stations towards a new county fire training center.
Over the past several months, council members and the county’s rural fire board have debated the issue after a 2008 vote to upgrade some of the 17 rural fire stations across the county.
David Jennings chairs the Rural Fire Board and head the Flint Hill Fire Department.
Jennings says the county’s current fire training center on Ogden Road is outdated and outgrown.
Two possible sites for a new facility include McFarland Road or on Genthe Court — both are locations west of Rock Hill and considered more centrally located to all departments.
