Winthrop University officials say operations the Rock Hill campus have resumed to normal after a suspicious package was found in a bird bath outside Tillman Hall Wednesday afternoon.

Winthrop University Police Chief Frank Zebedis says that just after 2 p.m., a female student came across the small package and contacted authorities.

Both the Winthrop University Police Department and Rock Hill Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene, conducting an X-ray examination of the box and determined it was no threat.

Zebedis says the package is now in the hands of investigators who will look into the origin of the package.

Zebedis says incidents like this just don’t happen on Winthrop’s campus.

No evacuation of campus was ordered by university officials, but employees and students in nearby facilities were asked to stay away from windows closest to the scene.
