An off-duty Rock Hill police officer was arrested this weekend for driving under the influence in Fort Mill in his own patrol car.

A report released Monday says 28-year-old Sammy Figueroa of Indian Land was speeding and swerving down Main Street and Spratt Street in Fort Mill, crossing both the center and the fog line.

Figueroa failed several field sobriety tests and refused a breathalyzer test.

In a written statement Monday, Rock Hill Police Chief John Gregory said Figueroa has been placed on procedural suspension pending an internal investigation.

City officials say Figueroa has been a police officer in Rock Hill since October 2009.

Eds. Note: An earlier version of this story said Figueroa “was refused a breahalyzer test.” That was incorrect. Figueroa indeed refused the breathalyzer test on his own accord.
