Residents and police officers held a retirement dinner Thursday night for Rock Hill police chief John Gregory at the Palmetto Room.  Lieutenant Brad Redfearn says Gregory was a chief who got along with all officers.

The party was put on with donations from private citizens across the city.  Gregory will hang up the uniform on December 1st.  Meanwhile, Rock Hill City Manager David Vehaun says applications continue to come in for Gregory’s successor and are being reviewed.

Vehaun says next to the mayor, the police chief is the most important hiring decision the city will make.   Redfearn says he hopes the city can replace Gregory with someone just like him.
