For the second time this year, Winthrop University alumni spanning two different scholastic eras are coming to campus for Homecoming this weekend.
What was once two different events — the Alumni Reunion Celebration and Homecoming, is now combined into one three-day event spanning decades of graduates.
Winthrop University Associate Vice President of University Development and Alumni Relations Debbie Garrick.
Garrick says the combined reunion-homecoming weekend has gained a lot of traction as alumni rally around NCAA-level basketball.
Garrick says Saturday’s alumni tailgate and Men’s basketball game are expected to be a hit with new coach Pat Kelsey.
Garrick, a Winthrop graduate herself, says a week’s worth of celebrations on the student side are underway.
While there are several events scheduled for affinity groups and various classes, tailgating at Winthrop Coliseum starts at 11 a.m. Saturday leading up to Winthrop’s 4 p.m. tip-off against St. Andrews University.
