Columbia woman dies in wreck on I-77 in Chester County
A Columbia woman is dead following a late-night crash Thursday on I-77 in Chester County.
LCpl. Brent Kelly of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Friday that an 18-year-old woman died after she was hit by a tractor-trailer standing in the middle of I-77.
Troopers say the woman’s car clipped the rear end of a semi-truck heading Northbound on I-77 when her car went through the median and struck an embankment.
Troopers say the woman then got out of her car and was standing in the middle of the southbound lanes of I-77. The woman was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center and later died.
As of 8 p.m. Friday, the Chester County Coroner’s office has not released her name.
The driver, from Concord, N.C., was not injured.
