As you’re out an about this Thanksgiving weekend getting a start on your Christmas shopping, local businesses hope you’ll give them a chance to serve you before you head to shop outside of town.

Small Business Saturday is a national grassroots effort promoting local businesses and their impact on the community.

York County Regional Chamber president Rob Youngblood says what when you spend money in your hometown, much of it stays in your hometown and supports public services.

Youngblood says local businesses are also apt to hire more seasonal employees — and when that seasonal extra business turns into consistent extra business, good things can happen.

Youngblood says for every $100 spent at a local business, up to 40% of that goes back into the community in the form of wages, taxes and other business-to-business sales.
