Local co-op celebrates Public Natural Gas week

This week is public natural gas week, and York County Natural Gas is hosting an open house Wednesday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.

President and CEO Jim Heckle is making his case for vehicles using compressed natural gas instead of traditional gas.  Heckle says the City of Rock Hill is using compressed natural gas in some of its vehicles.

Heckle says quite simply, compressed natural gas, or CNG, is a better choice for vehicle fuel.

Heckle says using ethanol in vehicles  is one of the biggest mistakes that’s been made.

Heckle says some conversion kits for compressed natural gas cost as little as $1,500.  He says compressed natural gas is selling for about

$1.58 per gallon, less than half what we’re paying at the pumps for regular unleaded gasoline.
