York Co. Deputies bring home awards from NRA shooting competition

Two York County Sheriff’s Deputies are among the top riflemen in the nation.

Sgt. Heath Clevenger and Sgt. Buddy Brown returned from the NRA National Police Tactical Shooting Competition in Albuquerque, N.M.,  in mid-September, bringing home several awards.

Together, Clevenger and Brown both placed fourth in the team competition. Brown says there were 68 teams involved from across the country.

Both men are on the county’s SWAT team, and spend much of their personal time honing their weapons skills.

Clevenger says the exposure to talent from other officers across the country is a great way to improve his own skills.

Brown says the experience is well worth the hours of effort in training.

Overall, Clevenger came in eighth place and Brown came in 14th place among 68 teams from law enforcement agencies sending representatives to the competition, including other local, state and national agencies across the United States.
