US Youth Soccer tournament brings in an estimated $3.5M to York Co.

Final economic figures are still making their way in from this summer’s US Youth Soccer tournament in Rock Hill, and as of yet, are standing steady around the 3.5-million dollar mark.

Auvis Cole, Sports Tourism Sales Manager for the York County Convention and Visitors Bureau says for events like the soccer tournament, it all starts with heads in beds.

Cole says the local and national impact of the sports tourism industry has a great backing from local elected officials.

Cole says while the City of Rock Hill, local convention bureaus and the state Department of Parks Recreation and Tourism all use different methods to compute the economic impact, the final tallies are used as a tool to better sell the community to future interested parties in the sports tourism industry.
