This month, the City of Rock Hill was recognized as a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly City by the League of American Bicyclists.
The designation is given to cities like Rock Hill for communities that have taken extra steps to support bicycle friendly efforts from both the private and public sector. City of Rock Hill Outdoor Recreation Coordinator Tom Bell.

The League of American Bicyclists specifically noted the city’s designation of a bicycle and pedestrian task force, efforts underway at the Rock Hill Outdoor Center and the citizen involvement in parts of the College Town Action Plan.
Bell says the efforts towards making Rock Hill more bicycle friendly are nowhere near finished.

Bell says the designation goes further then just building recreation centers.

Bell says that much of the city’s efforts are led by citizen surveys that consistently ask for additional outdoor venues to be incorporated into everyday construction efforts.

Four other cities hold the league’s bronze designation including Charleston, Columbia, Greenville and Spartanburg. The City of Hilton Head holds the silver designation.
