Susie Hinton has represented the city’s first ward since 2007 following the late Winston Searles who held the seat for nearly 30 years. Hinton says she has mixed feelings as she vacates her seat.:
Hinton’s ward one seat will be taken by Sandra Oborokumo, a Rock Hill native who is retired from the federal government.
Oborokumo was the only person to file for the seat — and Hinton says she’s pleased to know her successor.:
Hinton announced this summer she was moving outside of the Ward 1 boundaries, triggering a special election for the seat. However, since Oborokumo was the one person to file for office, the election was scrapped to save money.
Oborokumo will be sworn into office at the November 12 council meeting.
