The City of Rock Hill has more plans for Cherry Road. Planning and Development Director Bill Meyer says there are about six or seven sections of Cherry Road that are being studied in terms of land use and development.

Meyer says one thing that’s being looked at is the Winthrop University college town action plan.

Meyer says Dollar General recently broke ground on a new store to be built at Main Street and Cherry Road. He says it’s the first new retail investment in the area in a long time.

That new Dollar General will stand on the outskirts of the Boyd Hill Community — an area that Meyer says is being studied in terms of future development. Meyer says there have been a number of market studies conducted on that area in recent years.

Meyer says the college town action plan in the area of Cherry Road closest to Winthrop University is still in the works.

Meyer says Cherry Road near Cherry Park — between Mount Gallant Road and Richmond Drive — could be ripe for infill residential uses in the future.
