[media-credit id=18 align=”alignright” width=”300″][/media-credit]Many have come from different backgrounds and served in different theaters of war, but veterans across York County stood atop overpasses lining Interstate 77 waving American Flags as the nation remembered the 11th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

One of those was retired Marine and former Spartanburg police officer David Jones, who now lives in Van Wyck and said Tuesday he stood waving an American flag for the people who he’s served.

Mike Jefferies of York County’s chapter of Rolling Thunder, a veterans group, says there was one sole purpose of waving American flags across York County.

Not 100 feet away from Jones stood Phillip George, a retired sailor who served in Vietnam, said through broken tears how it feels to wave the flag of the nation he’s fought for here at home.

Later on, Geroge explained the purpose behind standing with his fellow brothers and sisters.

Jones said standing up for his country on 9-11 just seemed like the right thing to do.

Jones describes how he felt the morning of September 11th, 2001.

During the interview, dozens of drivers along the Interstate honked, flashed their headlights and waved at Jones — something he said was happening all morning long.
