Rock Hill City officials Thursday announced the date for the special election to be held to fill the city council seat opening up with the vacating Susie Hinton.

This summer, Hinton announced she was moving outside the boundaries of Ward 1, meaning she can no longer hold the seat. A special election for Hinton’s seat will be held November 27.

Citizens desiring to run for the seat have from September 21 at noon to October 1 at noon to file. The filing fee to run for the office is $160. Perspective candidates must live within the boundaries of city Ward 1.

Should only one person file for the office of council member and no person files a declaration to be a write-in candidate within (14) fourteen days after filing closes, the sole candidate who filed for office shall be declared the winner  pursuant to S. C. Code of Laws 7-13-190.
