“Public education of our young people is the most important responsibility our community holds,” said Wingate. “The Rock Hill Schools have been a passion for me for decades. I’m pleased to now have the time to serve on the School Board and help ensure quality public education for today and the future.”
Wingate has chaired or co-chaired the past five, all successful, local school bond campaigns. He currently serves on the Catawba Regional Educational Council and received the 2006 “Friend of Education Award” from the S.C. Education Association. His wife, Polly, is a teacher and his two grown children graduated from the Rock Hill Schools. He is a past PTO president and School Improvement Council member.
Active in other areas of the community, Wingate has been board chair of the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Rock Hill Area Chamber of Commerce, Eastern York County United Way, Upper Palmetto YMCA, Keystone and Come See Me Festival.
