With the Democratic National Convention now less than a month away, local businesses are banking on business coming their way with the 35,000 delegates, media, security and support staff descending on the Carolinas.

Mary Frances Morton of the York County-based group SC in 2012 tells WRHI that several York County businesses hotels are still waiting to see if they’ll be booked to the brim.

Morton has this advice for local businesses who’ve yet to get in on the DNC-related business.

Morton says the John C. West Forum at Winthrop is hosting a number of events designed to give political science students a first-hand view of what it takes to pull off a political convention.

Morton and her team have a number of events planned in York County the week leading up to the convention, including an event in Downtown Rock Hill on September 1 to show off the state.

Morton and the SC in 2012 committee are working on a mini-convention at the Baxter Hood Center during the DNC.

York County will have two local delegates at the convention, State Representative John King and York County Councilman Bunp Roddey.
