Early Sunday morning, residents in Clover are expected to lose power as Duke Energy performs some urgent maintenance on an electrical substation.

Customers learned of the news Friday after automated phone calls were made to homes in affected areas.

Customers like David Bowles weren’t very pleased after hearing the message telling our news partner WSOC-TV that in the midst of the June heat wave, there had to be a better time to handle maintenance.

Duke Energy later told energy regulators in South Carolina a piece of equipment at a substation was very much in danger of failing, and given the stress on the electrical grid, it was better to handle the maintenance overnight than have the equipment fail unexpectedly.
