YORK COUNTY — With just a slim voter turnout in York County Tuesday, one incumbent county councilman remains in office, and another former councilman will likely regain his seat this coming fall.

[media-credit id=18 align=”alignright” width=”300″][/media-credit]Longtime incumbent Curwood Chappell beat challenger Patrick White by a 20-point margin in Tuesday’s primary, while Joe Cox beat Steve McNeely.

Winthrop University political science professor says the Cox/McNeely race was interesting to watch after the York County GOP reopened filing for the district five seat after incumbent councilman Eric Winstead announced he was resigning his candidacy.

Cox beat McNeely by a 9-point margin. McNeely says he wanted to see the council return to what he calls a more business friendly atmosphere.

Huffmon says that Chappell’s 500-vote win was not a major surprise.

While Chappell, Patrick and Cox all declined to speak to WRHI, Winthrop University political science professor Scott Huffmon says Chappell’s win shows just how much of a force he has in York County.

Just over 4,100 ballots were cast for the two contested races in York County, with just a three percent voter turnout.

Both the district three and five races are uncontested leading into the November General Election.

  2. YOU PEOPLE HAVE TRIED TO PSYCHO ANALYZE CURWOOD CHAPPELL FOR 20 YEARS, IT IS VERY SIMPLE ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ ARE SICK OF “BIG GOVERNMENT” AND SICK OF ALL THE ‘LIES’ THE CANDIDATES TELL US TO GET OUR VOTE. THEY TAKE OUR TAXES AND SPEND US INTO BANKRUPTCY, THEY WILL SELL THEIR SOUL TO SHINE AMONG THE ELITIST AND SPECIAL INTEREST FOR PERSONAL GAIN WHILE THE MIDDLE CLASS IS FOOTING THE BILL! CURWOOD CHAPPELL IS GETTING READY TO SERVE HIS TWENTY FIRST AND TWENTY SECOND YEAR ON THE COUNTY COUNCIL… WHY? BECAUSE HE WORKS DILIGENTLY TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THE CITIZENS AND IS A WATCH DOG FOR OUR TAX DOLLARS. HE HAS A PROVEN TRACK RECORD FOR HELPING KEEP YORK COUNTY SPENDING DOWN AND AS THE RECESSION CONTINUES IN THIS COUNTRY HE HAS HELP MANAGE TO KEEP OUR COUNTY BUDGET AT A PLUS WHILE OTHER COUNTIES ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY HAVE GONE BROKE! HE HELPS KEEP BUSINESSES OUT OF YORK COUNTY THAT ARE NOT COST EFFECTIVE AND REFUSES TO LET BUSINESSES COME THAT OTHER COUNTIES DO NOT WANT! HE WILL NOT SPEND YORK COUNTY INTO BANKRUPTCY. HE IS FOR SMALL BUSINESS AND WILL ONLY APPROVE CLEAN COST EFFECTIVE INDUSTRY. IN THE PAST SOME OF OUR OWN YORK COUNTY RESIDENCE SERVING ON THE COUNCIL WERE WILLING TO EXCEPT NON-COST EFFECTIVE BUSINESSES INTO YORK COUNTY, IT WAS GOING TO END UP COSTING THE TAX PAYERS TO ACCOMMODATE THEM PLUS, RUIN SOME OF OUR TRANQUIL COMMUNITIES. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WE DO NOT NEED REPRESENTING US AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE GONE! CURWOOD CHAPPELL SLOGAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN
‘COMMON SENSE LEADERSHIP’ IT SOUNDS SIMPLE BUT IT WORKS! EVER WONDER WHY YORK COUNTY HAS BEEN RATED AS THE SECOND FASTEST GROWING COUNTY IN SOUTH CAROLINA?… I REST MY CASE!
