Gamecocks land another Richmond County standout

Five years ago, USC signed a heralded prospect named Melvin Ingram, who last week was taken in the first round of the NFL Draft.  The Gamecocks are mining talent once again at  Richmond County High School in Rockingham, NC.  Monday night they landed a commtment from DE Devonte Covington (6-3 220), their first commitment from North Carolina for the 2013 class, and their 8th overall. 

Covington is the third product from Richmond County to commit to the Gamecocks in recent years.  Before Ingram, the Gamecocks signed a quarterback named Skeets Thomas who ended up playing receiver  with the Gameocks.

Shawn Elliott recruits Richmond County for USC and is working on another prized prospect there in OL Tyrone Crowder.
