County Council races heating up

We’re just over two months away from the June 12th primaries and Winthrop University political science department chairwoman Karen Kedrowski is handicapping the York County Council races.

Kedrowski said on WRHI’s Straight Talk last week that Council Chairman Britt Blackwell and challenger Gary Williams have a history that goes back many years.

Kedrowski says that will be the race to watch.

Kedrowski says the two men do NOT see eye to eye on the Culture and Heritage Museums.  She says there have already been questions raised about whether Blackwell or Williams is more conservative and who the “real” republican happens to be.

In the district four race, former councilman Roy Blake is taking on incumbent Bump Roddey.  Kedrowski said Blake doesn’t believe Roddey has done a good enough job serving his constituent’s transportation needs.

Kedrowski says the styles of the two opposing candidates are very different.

Nine-term Councilman Curwood Chappell’s district now includes part of Fort Mill and Kedrowski says they don’t know him.  Kedrowski says challenger Patrick White has a good reputation,  having served as the chairman of the Fort Mill School Board.

Kedrowski says Chappell has taken care of opposition in the past, but it will be more difficult this time.
