Knost after winning 2007 US Public Links

If you know the name Colt Knost, then count yourself among the most knowledgeable of golf fan.  Actually, Knost has come golf acclaim.  He won the US Amatuer in 2007 and was the #1 ranked amatuer in the country when he turned pro.  He’s also won twice on the Nationwide Tour.  Now, Knost has himself in position to win his first PGA Tour event.

Knost fired a 5-under 66 Friday to surge to the lead in the RBC Heritage, a lead that likely will standup the rest of the day.  The 66 matches his best round of the season which he’s done three other times.  Knost has had just one bogey thru his first 36 holes at Harbour Town this week.

It does not appear as it anyone will be able to take the lead from Knost as play continues late in the afternoon Friday.  Carl Petterson had a 65, tied for the best score of the day, and is second at seven under.  Two time champion Boo Weekley and former Georgia star Harris English are in at minus six.

Defending champion Brandt Snedecker looks like the only one with a shot at overtaking the leader.  He’s five under for the day and the tournament as he approaches the midway point of his round.

As for the local contingent, Clemson’s Kyle Stanley is on the course at two under.  Coastal Carolina’s Tom Gillis is in the clubhouse at one under par after a 71, and Tommy Gainey is on the course at one under par.
