One person is confirmed dead in a wreck today on S.C. 5 near Reservation Road. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports the wreck occurred just before 10:45 this morning.

York County Coroner Sabrina Gast says the victim was 75-year-old George Custer of Shiloh Unity Road in Lancaster.

[[FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, HE HAD STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TO PUT SOME ARTICLES THAT HAD FALLEN FROM HIS TRUCK BACK ON TO THE VEHICLE AND HE WAS HIT BY A LOGGING TRUCK.]]

Gast says an autopsy is underway and Custer died at the scene.

This is the second fatal wreck involving a Lancaster resident this week.

Monday, Hiawatha Stewart was killed in a wreck on McIllwain Road after his pickup truck collided with another pickup truck. He, too, was pronounced dead at the scene.
