With the Democratic National Convention coming to the Queen City in just a little over five months, Rock Hill Police Chief John Gregory says that a handful of Rock Hill officers will be heading to Charlotte, joining some 2-thousand other law enforcement officers from across the country for the three-day event.
[media-credit name=”WSOC-TV” align=”alignright” width=”300″][/media-credit]Gregory said Wednesday around a dozen officers will be deputized by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff and will handle everything from traffic control to searching vehicles and bags for explosives.
Gregory says the city’s bomb squad will also take part in the effort.
Funding for the officers’ work in Charlotte comes from a nearly 50-million dollars in federal funding that was given to the Queen City to assist with the effort.
Gregory says the convention has been designated a National Security Event, with unprecedented security measures.
The Democratic National Convention is expected to bring in some 35-thousand delegates, media, and President Obama himself, to Charlotte.
