Hope Moore and her daughter Sarah Moore with Catherine Lambert of the Girl Scout Hornets Nest Council joins Palmetto Mornings to talk about their upcoming 10th Anniversary Scouting for the Cure on Saturday, March 24th. The event will be held at Tirzah Presbyterian Church in York.
This annual event is funded though Komen Charlotte and Girl Scout Hornets Nest Council and teaches girls in our county the importance of mammograms and early detection of breast cancer in women and men. Girls at the event do over 14 activities in one afternoon ranging from making pillows for Breast Cancer patients, playing BINGO, to making reminder cards to take home to family members to remember monthly self exams.
Each girl completes a “Survivor” bag during the course of the afternoon that is then donated to Piedmont Medical Center. The council works with Rosemary Clement, Breast Health Navigator at PMC to insure that all our Survivor bags are given out to patients as the come in for surgery or treatment of Breast Cancer. In the past 3 years, they have made an donated over 250 bags to PMC.
